Twice a Day
.
The dawn, it fed me strawberries
I ate with greedy gaze
Magicians and beauticians
Mixing in magenta blaze
The water caught a tint of pink
Mallards flew overhead
A heron stalked a river bank
As dreams of peaches bled
And then, it all grew ordinary
Settled blue and grey
Sky whispered “….There’s a matinee
….This show runs twice a day”
.
So many seats are empty now
The tickets go unsold
For what’s another sunrise
When the movie’s getting old?
But each new breath of mist on ground
Calls patterns not yet known
The ribbon of a shaft of light
Casts unique shadows thrown
When I feel done or overrun
I look to heaven and say
“The greatest show on earth is mine
I’m watching, twice a day”
I wrote this thinking of the quote from Cheryl Strayed in Wild.
“There’s always a sunrise and always a sunset and it’s up to you to choose to be there for it”
It has always resonated with me.
Don’t miss the most beautiful things in life that are free! Go see them!
I empathise with that. I just detest winter and it’s limitations. Had daughter and family here yesterday but they left this morning so it was just right. It was nice to be busy actually and spoil them a little. Off up to Wiltshire to stay a couple of days with son and the other grandchildren tomorrow by train (hopefully)
