I used to enjoy the discipline of travelling light when I was camping and cycling - before I could drive or afford to stay in Premier Inns (shame on me!) Now, it’s easy enough to throw whatever I may or may not need into the back of the car. I watched the movie of Cheryl Strayed’s book “Wild” and it reminded me that some travellers, out of necessity, turn this into an absolute art.

Yes I’ve seen that film too, really enjoyed it. I don’t drive/have a car. I kept thinking I should learn to drive but then I think what with shitshow and the green push is there any point anymore?

The only point now would be as an act of defiance - or to maximise your potential to have adventures (although if we end up in a Mad Max dystopia, a license will hardly be necessary).

I’m envious. Still haven’t mastered the art of downsizing my suitcase, but I’m trying. Each time I overpack I now take note of the “stuff” I didn’t wear which helps and also what I wore most of the time...

I have learnt to downsize people I don’t need in my life though and to truly nurture and look after the few really good friends that I have-less is more ❤️

That’s the main thing then, hey? :)

Travel light, it is the only way to go. How much stuff do you actually need? My last three trips abroad in the last nine months have only been with hand luggage. It’s amazing what you can leave behind if you try.

Absolutely. So many things easily ‘double up’ too. It’s so freeing. I could not believe the size of some of the suitcases I saw. Crazy proportions.

Yes, people pulling two huge suitcases! I actually wouldn’t have enough clothes in my wardrobe to fill two large suitcases. May be that says a lot about me🤷‍♀️

Anything I take must not need an iron. I imagine that says a lot about me too😂😂

Well, here is the thing Julie, I don’t even own an iron. I only buy clothes that don’t need ironing.

Ditto, though I do have an iron I only use it (possibly!) for weddings, funerals and job interviews... possibly ;)

Good advice. Very apposite analogy too, although damn difficult, especially surrounded by all the negative stuff being flung about.
