I absolutely love this! I've always wanted an allotment, I always fancied the idea of building a cute little shed on it and painting it bight colours. They're as rare as hen's teeth around here now but I am now doing my best to grow my own herbs and food on my tiny patio garden.

Shocking that the modern pace of life spares no time for growing -- in an ideal society it would be a given that every person requires land to grow food & raise animaux

Yes, I’ve no back garden whatsoever and only a few steps to put containers on at the front. I hear you.

Ah such good memories..

Reading this makes me want to dig up the garden. Mmm but it’s bloody freezing here, maybe another time 😬

Yeah it’s bloody cold here as well, don’t blame you. I’m in bed with my hot water bottle. Another rock n roll Saturday….😂

I am on my second year of trying to grow veg in my little garden. I do have my name down for an allotment but am happy to practice where only a few neighbours can see ;) Like you, I couldn't have spared the time once my children were passed toddlers but now they are adults (though still at home) and I can once again explore my abilities. I just feel calmer once I have had my hands in the earth x

Yes I just gave up with peppers and tomatoes. Stuck with easy stuff that takes around here😂😂😂

Oh absolutely, it takes a season or three to find out a) what grows where you are and b) what doesn't take a lot of your time to keep going!

I love my allotment! I tell people that it’s my sanctuary; my therapist; my supermarket; my gym; my social club. Yes, it’s all of that but so much more. I truly feel that I work hand in hand with ‘the divine’ to aid things into life. I doubt I’ll ever tire of seeing a seed sprout; of tasting the first strawberry of the season; of talking to the frogs, bees, birds, worms... It is my ‘homecoming’ when I get there. I have learned to appreciate life so much more since I first took it on almost 5 years ago. I hadn’t expected to love it so. I’m definitely an Earth Child!

Thank you for your beautiful words xxx

There is something so nourishing about tending the earth. It really does forge connection. One day I hope to either have another or a tiny garden. I find so much peace and purpose there. Wildlife is a gift. Spending an hour just musing over hoverflies or watching the courtship of butterflies…..wondrous!

And of course I live in the ‘rhubarb triangle’ too!😉😂

We took on an allotment last summer. It took several weeks to make it habitable so I'm very much looking forward to this year. It's hard work but I love it and it I feel very much at peace when I'm there.

You created a place of beauty and tranquility for you and your son. The allotment seemed to have come available to you at a time when it was most needed and you made it into a haven.
