This is great, I can visualize what you write, the people and the white make me smile you also have such optimistic but realistic wisdom. You really need to write a book, the way you write is amazing. I get where you are coming from and even though from a very poor background I am fortunate to do the jobs I have done. As have met people from many different backgrounds and cultures, and this helps to work out a lot...

Thanks for the encouragement,

Peter.

I’ve not put this one on Facebook. A bit close to home😉😂😂

Names have been changed but some may still recognise themselves 😂

I feel lucky that all of my life, I’ve managed to get along with people from all background. I consider it a strength. Much as I am aware of my own difference I have always been confident around all types of people and have always had friends of all classes. It’s all bollocks.

I might do a book one day if I can think of a story. Writing about my own experiences always seems easier.

Can tell how you write that you are very good at addapting and liking people for who they are, not what they are. When you do a book, if you like I could help by designing or photographing a cover. You would do well as a professional writer.

What a delightful read. I’ve had many such experiences with groups that I didn’t really fit into but learnt so much from. The best part, as you said, is that you get to meet folk who’s path you would never ordinarily have crossed.

Interesting , I had just been having a weird flashback about my time at Steiner playgroup ! Which must’ve been totally contained within the window of 1999-2002 , my middle 2. So you’re astute and funny observations came with bittersweet emotions for me . Times change , and people , but I recognised a lot more than not .

Btw my 25 year old is still into plant weaving and nettle tea 😉 And I never need to remember to make the Easter tree . Mr 22 , the millennium babe, who bit other kids at Steiner , but I was never told off by the leader , is a trainee engineer at CERN 🤷‍♀️🤣

It works for many. I can imagine I would have loved it as a child, well most of it. I never really got into the monotone voice for the stories thing.

I’ve mixed feelings about the experience as a whole, certainly as he grew older at the school it turned sour. My son was a curve ball and simply didn’t fit. But those first days in that space were a blessing and I’m grateful for them.

Ps he could sew with a real needle and thread age 2 . Only at Steiner would that have even been attempted ! 🤣

Brilliantly written, I was right there in that room with you all hoping to stay unnoticed like a fly in the wall,, great descriptive wording to keep the reader beholden to your insights of the world at large.

Cheers John. Describing people is one of my favourite things to do. I do enjoy observing the endearing idiosyncrasies and unique quirks of my fellow human beings.

Great writing. I really enjoyed this piece though I must confess that as a man I felt like the fox in the henhouse to some degree. 😊 However as a dad of many grownup kids and now many grandchildren I was interested in the observations on raising children. I recall encounters with snobbish parents when our children were young and wild so we would never get a tap on the shoulder for this kind of group. 🤣

I hear ya.

Where I live there are definitely a few quirky groups. I will probably do a piece on the harmony singing group for mothers at some point. They are fab for writing about, these little circles, they always attract such funny characters :)

Yes - characters! I meant to say that I enjoyed how you portrayed the characters Sarah and Kim. I could picture their personalities perfectly. 😀

They are both really lovely ladies in very different ways. Kim is like no-one else I’ve ever met. A complete one off. :)

Thanks for telling yours. We live and learn, hey?

Certainly of all the mum groups I attended I found the ‘special needs’ ones the worst. So depressing and blame inducing. They make victims of people.
