It's fought and won in the mind - my family went to the great barrier reef in Queensland Australia. I am fearless to the point of stupidity, but my wife amazed us all and went in. Feeling the fear and doing it anyway, you get to see rewards beyond the risks. Well done 1✌

How fun! So glad you conquered your fear. I miss that wonderland world beneath the sea where I spent so many glorious hours when we were sailing. Your photographs are fantastic too. Thank you so much for taking us along on your grand adventure!

It was the most wonderful place I’ve ever been in my life. I love travelling. It is the thing that brings me the most joy. I also love nature. That’s why for my 50th I wanted somewhere that felt really far away abundant with nature. I’ve been learning Spanish too so it was the absolute perfect place. Would highly recommend it. 😍

It sounds inspiring, Julie!

Julie! This is so good! The whole series should be in a travel magazine or blog! You write so well, so beautifully descriptive and I also died laughing over that inner talk not to miss out anymore! ha ha! Read the whole thing to my husband and he love it! Laughed out loud with me. So glad you conquered your fears (although I don't think this one was abnormal? sharks?) and had an amazing holiday. Once in a lifetime! ox

Hey well done for getting out there Julie. What an experience. Amazing words, pics and clips.

(Last time I spotted a Blue Footed Booby she was waddling into a Christmas do at the Batley Variety Club squeezing into a white mini dress and stilletos. 😉)

Yay! I'm so glad you did it! Your writing is excellent and I was right there with you! The first time I snorkeled in the Bahamas I saw so many beautifully colored fish... and then I freaked myself out and went back to shore. Then I met my husband who is a scuba diver. He went on a shark dive, no cage, and explained how timid sharks really are. It took hours to get them to come close enough to get pics. He made a video and put music to it and it's incredible. In 2018 we snorkeled in Honduras and there was a nurse shark tucked into the reef napping, and I swam by it. And feel a teeny tiny bit as cool as my hubby. He likes to say..." you have a better chance dying from falling out of bed, than by getting attacked by a shark". Thank you so much for sharing your trip, you are letting us come with you and it's appreciated!

Proud of you, Aquamarina. 🐬 It is utterly marvellous, snorkelling, isn’t it? You’re a guest in a different environment where you’re just incapable of intimidating anything. It’s such a free pass to just be and observe. Also, the Frigatebirds sound like laser gunfire in an 80’s arcade game.

Yes it was awesome. I feel like I’m in a new club😂

Yes those birds were intimidating really, the way they circled making that noise. If all that lot decided to shit on you, you would be pelted.😂

.. there’s another style - a hybrid face mask - fits right to the chin & atop of the mask is fixed single snorkel - so there’s nothing actually in your mouth & you can breathe via nose & mouth- those worn great for many from kid to adult .. though we’ve not tried & bought them.. we may soon though - it would assist me for sure .. just enhancing my view & ease of breathing.. & we all intake varying amounts of salt water haha - then you find it easy with waterproof P&S to add some in water shootin.. so cool !

It’s an intoxicating environment - the entire marine ecosystem & totally why my three ‘major developments here are about as ‘marine epicentre as anyone could dream of .. as are a fair % of my posts - what’s ‘more marine than shipwreck’ ? Or being a ‘Surf Shooter’ on the east coast of the Atlantic or North Sea haha ! 🦎🏴‍☠️

Wonderful. I've enjoyed every second. The beautiful colours and sights that you've brought to life. I'm so glad that you tried snorkeling. I too was hesitant at first, but once I'd mastered it there was such joy at the ability to see the teeming life in the sea x

I think a lot of the world better understands sharks these days thankfully. We still have a long way to go but we’ve made progress.
