What could Lily Allen, a rich, successful female and her mate possibly be talking about?

Oh, wait a minute…….ABORTIONS!

Yeah, that’d be it! Silly me!

Forgive my speed at catching on because once, we used to talk about human life as though it actually meant something, didn’t we?

As though something sacred was at stake.

Before you write me off as a ‘Pro Life’ purist, let me say, I am extremely supportive of a woman’s right to a safe, legal termination. I’d hate for the UK to return to what it was before the late 60s - a hot bed of unscrupulous back street butchery. Of grubby fellas with crochet hooks and all other kinds of horror stories that make my lady parts wince.

I’ve watched 10, Rillington Place.

But please, can we just acknowledge that there are some complete piss takers out there who let the side down for everyone.

Just because you’ve not known them, I have.

And that’s the trouble with the ‘I support abortion no matter what’ brigade. They completely buy into the idea that no woman would ever exploit compassionate laws.

Newsflash - women aren’t all saints.

There are some absolute cold hearted monsters out there, unfortunately.

Women who are so proud of ‘asserting their right’ that they do so time and time again.

They’re carping on about it on podcasts. The new ‘notches on the bed post’.

The Overton Window on this has become a swinging French door.

What’s that?

Decriminalise til birth?

Yeah, why not. Only cells innit? Just like a jelly baby or summat.

Sorry, that ain’t MY sisterhood.

There are so many complex cases that don’t fit the mould of raped/danger to life/a child herself/severe deformities. Few would want this country to end up like the US where access depends on your zip code.

Access to abortion must remain available for females in their hour of need. (And no I won’t ever call it ‘health care’ - it’s not a fucking spa day.)

But PLEASE, women, girls - use this hard earned right, sparingly. Infrequently. Respect it. Show some reverence for the sanctity of life. For your own body.

It’s not edgy or progressive to talk about clocking up terminations like charms on a Pandora bracelet.

It’s a worrying sign of the times we live in.

I’ve a feeling that next time I hear that ‘Smile’ song of hers, that’s the last thing I’ll be doing.

Lily, your attitude makes me want to vomit.
