You've articulated the feelings of many people. Voting for any of these tribal parties is a waste of time. The problem is that to change the system we have to come up with a credible alternative. I've often thought about this and the problem that sticks out more than any other is the selection process for MPs. Rubbish in, rubbish out. There needs to be a broader base from which to select mature, experienced, honourable individuals with integrity and a sense of duty to country and place. Perhaps a jury type selection process where people over a certain age are mandated to serve a time limited term of office to administer their council or national government. Parties should be banned. There should be no vested interests only the interest of serving the people. The people need to take back control of their broken democracy. We need a Magna Carta 2.0. I've written about this on my substack. TCW site were gracious enough to publish it.
Brilliant article. We have followed a very similar trajectory politically. Like countless people I am of the old left but now politically homeless. Unlike you and many others I will be voting when we have an election as I can't quite "trust the chaos" as you say in one of your replies here, but I am hoping for an independent candidate that I can vote for. Failing that I will spoil the ballot paper, as I believe that all the major parties are lost. I completely understand the argument for not voting, and I myself have started to think that anarchy cannot be worse than this hideous pantomime, but I will not give the leaders who let us down the opportunity to peddle the myth that non-voters are apathetic, as opposed to upholding a principle. Well done. This was tremendous.
Thanks. Yes I felt like it was a long time coming to that decision for me. I never used to ‘get it’, when people didn’t vote. I thought they were wasting a chance to change things but the last few years have really showed me how similar the parties are at core.
Just catching on substack now after the long summer break with the kids...lol.
Another excellent written and observant article Julie. I, like you, am now politically homeless and will not be voting again without a drastic change to the current, corrupt system. I will not play their party games any longer. It is all currently set up and rigged so we, the people, will never win or benefit sadly. We need more people to recognise this and stop voting too.
Another wonderful, thought-provoking article from you Julie! You've perfectly articulated the frustrations that many of us non-voters have with our broken political system.
The Con-Lab duopoly is virtually cemented and sustained by FPTP, a corrupt mechanism which denies voters the opportunity to be properly represented by the people who they vote for.
It's highly likely that parties like David Kurten's Heritage would enjoy an influx of MPs at the next general election if we had proportional representation, but that's not in the interests of the overlords who want to keep the UK under the stewardship of corrupt globalists who infest every single one of the mainstream parties.
So for now, voting simply isn't an option for me because like you and millions of others, I realise it's a total con. Democracy in these times is simply being given the option to choose which party gets to carry on with the WEF wrecking agenda; an agenda which only serves the elite whilst dragging the rest of us into a technofascist nightmare kicking and screaming.
More of us are waking up to this pantomime of deception, however. It's only when millions of us reject these fraudsters and their criminal enterprise that we'll truly glimpse a possibility of real change.
Yes I think it just needs dismantling and starting again completely. Taking our hands off to enable the car to crash is a scary prospect to many but after the chaos comes the order. You have to trust the process, the chaos.
Weirdly, people are quite happy to carry on with what is actually a worse fate. The equivalent of a slow deliberate cancer death and all the false hope that comes with it.
Really thought provoking Julie. I’ve stopped voting least worse these days. I don’t trust any politicians anymore especially after the last two years! The last two I’ve spoiled my ballot with a message why, as I felt I wanted to make a small statement. I’ve been away for a couple of days and almost unbelievably, the globalist foot soldier who calls herself our MP was knocking doors around here. I was gutted to have missed her. H said she got out of jail missing a confrontation with me, 😂😂
Omg this is so good. But better. It's so good to be awake. It took a lab virus to wake up completely. I will never forget any of us who were sorely mistreated for keeping natural autonomy over our health. When a friend's young son died at the hands of evil in hospital because he chose not to be vaccinated, everything became clear. It's been this way a long time. All of these draconian governments hiding behind "democracy" showed us exactly who they are and what they control. We are and always have been chess pieces on their game boards.
Everything you said after this:
"Perhaps non-voters conclude that voting is the very action that keeps us in these chains rather than frees us from them."
Aww thank you. Yeah I used to think differently and remember when people used to say it all to me and I just didn’t get it, thought they were apathetic but now I know better.
Absolutely excellent article, Julie - totally nails it. I've just done a Masters in Constitutional Law (with a dissertation on the insane power of the Executive) simply as a reaction to the population-wide house arrest and totalitarianism foisted upon us in the name of convid. I can tell you the system is absolutely shit - the PM has pretty much absolute power - exactly like a Tudor monarch. We have been totally fooled for the entirety of the 20th century and into the 21st. Some judges and politicians were calling it out over 100 years ago. Still not changed. We have to stop playing their game - great analogy. I would like to start a DON'T VOTE campaign if I weren't rubbish at anything like that. Could we convince someone like Neil Oliver to head one up?
Until recently becoming a non-voter, I've always voted Conservative, like all my working class family (counter-stereotypically) because they were supposed to be the party of small government. We seem to have had a libertarian (or sod off and leave me alone) gene running through. I remember when I qualified as a solicitor being shocked by people I thought rather posh, being socialists! Couldn't understand it. They were generally patronising, champagne socialists who I realised wanted big government because they actually had a contempt for the working class and wanted to control them and tell them what was best for them. The independent 19th century Friendly Societies were squeezed out by National Insurance and it was all downhill from there. It was actually the greatest con trick ever that Labour managed to convince working class people to vote for their own control - they constructed the bars of their own prison (government control and high taxation) willingly. The Long March through the Institutions was voted for with every Labour ballot. The Conservatives have simply hitched their wagon to the socialist juggernaut because they too want the power of big government. It is Tolkien's Ring of Power - it bewitches and ensnares.
Absolutely. It’s disheartening that so many haven’t learned, especially after the last few years. That said more and more of us are finally starting to see it for what it is. I live in hope!
Yes! We are coming together from all over the political spectrum and I am hopeful. Convid has been a blessing, weirdly - it has been a wake up call for many.

Another brilliant piece. Love your writing. Lots of variety and always thoughtful and thought-provoking

Ha wading through my bleak poems 😂😂
Look forward to your next piece Nat x

I as always remain optimistic 🙏🏻

Highway to Hull 😆
:)
Sums it up perfectly Julie!
Many more of us are seeing through it thankfully.

For years I didn’t understand why people didn’t vote, had been conditioned to think they were lazy or stupid. Now finally i get it. Thank goodness!
I’ve heard so many people say over the years they vote Labour because “they’re for poor people like me”
or because their parents did. It’s crazy the number of people who simply never even research their choice.

Completely agree. It united those from all supposed ‘sides’. Many now realise it’s all the same system.
