I decided that the best way to document this trip was to do it in chunks. To do one piece would fail to do justice to it. Whilst there I wrote a series of notes and this is me writing up those notes and yes, this is the first post of a few.

I hope you felt like you were there with me.

Loved reading that. As others have said - so evocative & your writing really makes it feel like we were there too. Looking forward to reading more.

I now live in Ecuador after a trip to the Galapagos. Ecuador makes quite an impact when you first experience it. You know right away if it's for you. People either love it or hate it.

I adored it. I instantly fell in love with South America. The colour, the people, the vibe….🥰🌴☀️

I'm looking forward to more of your observations! I've lived here 20 years and owned a couple of businesses. The country is so clean. The food supply is abundant and inexpensive. Organic is plentiful and only a few cents more than conventional. My husband returned from the market last week with enough fruit and vegetables to last us a week for five dollars...all organic. The people are as sweet and friendly as you'll find anywhere. If you start me up on this topic, I won't stop. It's so nice to see someone else appreciate it.

I’d never been to South America at all before but know an Ecuadorean man in the UK who is just lovely and a great ambassador for the place. I can now put him in beautiful context.

The people are unique. It's a formal culture. You don't say hi, for example, you say "Good morning. How are you?" They are very good at getting along. It's called Minga, and it's the motto of the country which means simply Get Along.

Yes! The awkward plane etiquette! I hate it. But wow! What a genius idea to ask for a cab and to see that sunset! Just stunning. When I was in Faro I saw men just weeing in the street and couldn’t believe it! 😂 But I know it happens here too from the smell of the alleys!

Yes in other parts of the world there are some things that go on that shock and disturb us but South America had way more right with it than wrong for me.

... "that's quite continental enough"! LOL

There should be a plane ettiquette brochure... do not cover your neighbor with your blanket!! 😂

So glad you enjoyed it! I agree with the lady above, one either loves it or not.

Thank you for writing!! Pics are great!! It brought me back, can't wait for more!

Welcome home! Very engaging writing. I wouldn’t have known where to start. I thought that stand up comedians has rendered airline comedy bone dry by the 1990s but you still made me laugh. The segue from piss and shit straight to tomato tree juice was also delightful. Looking forward to more from you, but also really hope you take your time and share your experiences as fully and as entertainingly as only you know how.

Cheers :)

I never even connected the piss and juice😂

Yes I want to take my time yet at the same time write it whilst it’s still fresh but I did make notes and take pics so that’s helping and took shit loads of videos. Mainly of seals😂

I just liked the idea of Ecuadorean men hydrating (and dogs fertilising) said tomato trees. The cycle of life, eh?Looking forward to the seals. When the time comes, I’m also going to have to resist being equally juvenile about comically named seabirds.

There where one or two trails of some sort the nearer the airport I was but that’s only to be expected - probably just contrails.

I had the most amazing time, and I still have heaps more to harp on about 😂😂

As someone who is excited for your trip..I was excited to see your title. I'm reading along...totally agree on being quiet on the plane. I do not want to be saddled with a chatterbox on a plane ride. 😫" I admire the dirty honesty" strangely resonated with me. I love guava and mango...sunrise was the perfect choice! Can't wait for more! Thanks for sharing.
