I’m learning Spanish too, though I’ve mainly been using Duolingo until I ditched them in disgust when they tweeted to make fun of vaccine injured people. Your (if I may) purist approach gives me food for thought. I loved your portrait of Ingrid. I now feel like I’ve met her.

I used to use Duolingo but that was shocking, yes I remember it!

That aside though, I did become frustrated by their constant gamification doggy biscuit approach.

I just wanted to crack on. Couldn’t give a toss about spending their bullshit credits in their pretendy shop thing😂😂

Well done, Julie! I learned Spanish when I was younger (aeons ago 🙄), loved it.

You’ll be fluent one day… ready for another trip, to Peru perhaps? 💙💫

Yes when I saw her the other day she was trying to persuade me to go there. To Macha Picchu

I admire your commitment to the face to face vibe. I dip in and out of Duolingo but that’s not going to get me beyond Dora the Explorer level.

I lost patience with Duolingo.

I get annoyed with all the adverts.

Ingrid is away on her hols now and has given me lots of homework!

I think italian would be cool, not cool enough to make an effort to learn, but cool

Languages don't really grab me, I'm not interested enough in ppl to want to talk to anyone

Thanks Robin. Yes, I just wouldn’t have bothered if it was online. Soul sucking.

Sounds wonderful Julie. Learning Spanish with a real person not a screen. Time out, just for you.

I really benefit from it in so many ways. Both the learning and the human bond.

Spanish is the easiest written language in the world to learn.

If you know how to pronounce each letter and vowel and learn which syllable gets the accent

THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.

Of course if you're in Mexico reading words based on Aztec words is harder.

And when you're in Spain they lisp the words, because they think it makes them sound "high class".

That's all you need to know.

Use Google translate for the word

Read the word using standard pronunciation rules

BINGO.
