Yes to everything you said here! I have seen an image of a baby peacock that is so fake looking that it makes me want to puke and people swear it is real. As a wildlife and nature photographer AI is so offensive!
I saw that ‘baby peacock’ too. Just as as last night on Fb someone pointed out the ‘photo’ of the ‘guys working on the pyramids’ also sometimes has people falling for it.
Although these pranks might amuse whoever concocted the distortions, the world we now live in is easily corrupted by people falling for fake. There are deep fake videos of politicians that do the rounds, for example.
And yes, to a wonderful photographer like yourself it must be extremely offensive. The power people have given to AI can do many things, but it does not document with love, and I know that you will continue to do that and that love will shine through x
That is the biggest problem I see, the deep fake is everywhere and in politics it is a massive problem. When I worked as a political blogger I often worked to expose fake news. I don't know if that aspect of politics will ever go away, propaganda has always existed, but the internet made it so much worse.
You are right, AI can not document with love, it is hollow.

“BUT
The Arts are different.” - Good point about the tech we need (freeing laborers, ahem, women, from drudgery) and the tech we don’t (raiding National Galleries). I think you’ve taken exactly the right tone toward this monstrous subject! 🙌
Could not agree more. The only reason this is happening at all is its potential to make money. It's quite literally "selling your soul to the devil". Sorry to sound mediaeval but when money is the only goal it's game over. I stay away from AI. It bores me. I just hope people who find it exciting now will get bored with it, then it will leave us all alone, at least as far as the arts are concerned. It has so much destructive potential that it will take a lot to convince me that any subsidiary advantages it may have are worth the loss of our humanity and our capacity to decipher what is real. How dare we imagine that we can enhance nature? It's hubris of the most infantile kind.
The problem now, is life has gotten so bizarre it’s often hard to distinguish between real and fake these days. So many parody accounts that people think are real. The deep fake videos of politicians are prime example. Who’s to really know who did what these days, it’s so easily manipulated and weaponised.
Sadly there are many money chasers out there who care not for the real craft and hard work that has gone into production of creative fruits, and they will come to realise that ultimately, its an own goal.
I think the urge to create is a vital component of what we are as a species. If we start devaluing that we're doomed. That's why I suspect that all of this will settle down and find its level. If it doesn't I think it will just drive us all mad. The key, as always, is money. It never ceases to amaze me that greed always seems to trump all other considerations: values, empathy, everything. Some people are selling AI as a positive in the field of medicine for example. Very willing to look at the evidence and be pleasantly surprised.
You are extremely funny and a bit scary when you're angry. Julie Dee meets Julie Burchill meets Christ's "make not my Father's house a house of merchandise."
I agree the F out of it, and not just because you're scary.

Totally agree. It makes me very uncomfortable.
The only people saying it’s exciting are the freeloading greedy bastards. Straight up.
That was a very thorough and spot-on rant!
Cheers. I do love a good ole rant now and again and this one’s been a long time brewing.
