Reading back this poem, I see the tarot card "the hanged man". Many things we can't control but so often the hanged man hangs himself by tightening his own noose. His instinct is to finish the job because it's all doomed anyway. But if you hold the rope, you still have some control, don't you? Hold that thought.
Another thought to hold is the many types of knots there are.
Channel your boyscout or girlguide and remember how learning each knot is just another skill.
We won't get a badge but the more types of knot we tie and unpick, the more accomplished we become in the art of survival.
I’d often felt this way in my life. Especially when I was younger. Strangely enough, this nightmare forced on us since 2020 seems to have taught me so much about the strengths and coping mechanisms I possess. Unfortunately for the evils forcing this life on us, they have made so many of us stronger and more resolute than we ever thought possible. For those creatures…….that’s a BIG mistake.
The symmetry with and progression from this to ‘Daisy Chains’ is a joy to see. Keep practicing.
As I said, I’m reading my way refreshing my acquaintance with some older stuff and I may well be making comments here and there where I haven’t before.
There is no expectation upon you to reply or react if you don’t feel moved to do so. I’m just gratifying myself with your work, and I’m aware that has the potential to become irritating.
I don’t often revisit as I’d no doubt finding myself cringing- that’s the way with writing isn’t it - some of the stuff you once wrote makes you feel weird and it seems shit, but I suppose that’s growth!
I’ve probably repeated myself in newer stuff too. Fuck knows.
Btw, for clarity, when I said “keep practicing”, I meant in the sense of “I practice how to see my ties” - it wasn’t an admonishment to improve your writing!
Love this Julie ❤️ Definitely resonates with me and my own journey and coping mechanisms. Important to keep reminding ourselves what we have achieved in our lives rather than keep focusing on what we’re struggling with 💪🏼 x
My literary critic picks many holes in this one creatively, there’s not a lot of imagery or dazzling language but it’s strength holds as an “Everyman” poem, I guess.
It’s articulating a feeling many people can relate to because we all have our own battles going on and we’re trying to inch ourself forward, grow and learn whilst beating back the demons. Sending love x

Yes, I have my moments but thankfully it’s not a model of life that consumes me. I agree, many of us became much stronger and bolder post shitshow.

Oh whatever! The washing’s on the line eh?😂😂

Yep, I’ve been glancing through my first novel, shuddering at every 90’s reference and politically incorrect quip. Cringe fest.
You’re exploring themes though, it’s all part of the process.

We’re making progress. Not always as fast as we’d like, but we are.🔥💪🏼
