You are the storm
A post about having the courage to stand up for what you believe and how important it is.
I‘ve never been shy about saying what I think.
Over the last three years I have become even more inclined to use my social media to air my often strong views.
Why would I want to post pictures of my kid all the time when there is so much bullshit going on that needs discussing?
(Besides, he’s older, so less cute these days 😉)
One of the prices of this, is losing people.
Sometimes, old FB friends show up in the ‘add friend’ section or like today, I see them comment under another’s post.
There’s a brief sadness, as I contemplate what we once had in common, the bond we must have once forged.
But life is a river and just as we cannot take with us every stick and pebble, sometimes we must also lose the beautiful feathers that once graced our flow.
And that’s cool.
I don’t expect you to like me.
I don’t expect you to stay here.
I don’t expect connections to last forever.
You too are on your own journey and must let go of what does not align.
Gravitate to what ignites you, what lights you…what excites you.
These are divisive times.
As things grow increasingly more difficult due to world events, we cannot shy away from speaking our minds.
We must not hold back.
Yes, you will lose privileges, social media accounts, jobs, friends….
But whilst you’ll lose in all those things, you will gain massive SELF RESPECT, DIGNITY, COURAGE.
You may piss off Aunt Fanny.
Bob may no longer want to be your Uncle.
BUT
What you sacrifice in politeness, you will reap in knowing you stood up for what you believed in.
For we were made to be boat rockers.
You were never meant to be the vessel that drifts to….wherever…….whatever……whenever.
You are the storm that changes.
.
I didn’t intend posting this on here but it seems to have gotten such a good reception on Facebook, I thought maybe it would benefit other people who aren’t on Facebook to see it too.
Damn right👏👏
