I have been enjoying lots of nature walks recently. My favourite kind, are the ones I take alone. I please myself, pausing, leaning in or squatting down to tune in to whatever catches my eye or ears at the time.
Here are three poems I have written this week inspired by things I’ve noticed and reflected upon.
Birds
Birds throw bright sound, jewels plucked from crowns
To anyone who’ll listen
Hiding their charms in hawthorn arms
Bewitching flower and thistle
They launch themselves, black rubber bands
Into grey cloud abyss
I lose myself within their swirls
Kite tails of fleeting kiss.
Gorse
I watched wild blaze of gorse applause
Congratulate the field
On every blade of grass it held
Each stage of life revealed
Some had fresh dew upon their form
Glass dimples on new infants
And some lay trampled on the ground
Waiting for sun to strengthen
Reeds
Wish I could bend, as do the reeds
Suckers for nature’s cause
Slaves to the wind they drink in change
As beige obliging straws
Breeze gathers pace, they arch with grace
To shoulder harshest weather
Perhaps the reason backs don’t break
Is that they curve together.

Before i even got to the poems i found the intro relatable. About your favourite nature walks being those taken alone. I like to go on long runs. And it's crazy the things you pick up on in those solitary moments. Mundane things become very noticable. You've got a real gift to make those seemingly insignificant things sound as poetic as you do. Great stuff.
Ahh thanks for your update. Yeah I really miss what we had on there and your colourful inputs. I’m ok still at it but have decided to 100% avoid all politics with family and old mates in the hope of building trust again. I’m sure they will see signs soon - but when?!!!
Had a week in the sun with Jane and treated it like old times. That was nice.
Stood for council and an trying to educated those in situ. Most genuinely don’t realise what’s going on.
We keep trying 😊
I can feel another poem coming on soon too😂
Be good Julie.
