The Heart That Refused To See was an optimist.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t see.
Rather, that she preferred not to.
Chose to walk around wearing a big, daft blindfold.
You could say - and many did - that she was blinkered.
The blindfold, was made from rose scented satin. On the inside were pretty pictures. Of somewhere over the rainbow, a better place.
And sure…….living that way, wearing blinkers all the time, meant you met obstacles sometimes, fell down.
But generally, life was more fun when you blocked out painful truths.
“You really need to take that blindfold off!”
The other hearts advised.
“You’re going to break one day! There are many mean, cold hearts out there that will take advantage of a sweet, blinkered heart like yours!”
But The Heart That Refused To See, also refused to listen. After all, the world appeared a better place when all you saw before you, were little fluffy clouds.
And one day, it happened.
The Heart That Refused To See, was indeed, broken.
Cruelly stamped on.
Torn apart.
It hurt so bad, she thought she may die.
But she didn’t.
Because, hearts, are very good at repairing themselves.
“We told you this would happen!”
Said the other hearts, scathingly.
“Seriously, you really MUST stop wearing these blinkers! YOU need to FACE REALITY!”
But The Heart That Refused To See, was a stubborn heart. She had no wish to change. She’d seen what ‘facing reality’ did to hearts.
Blackened them.
Made them ugly.
Sometimes, *gulp*, they even……
TURNED TO STONE!
The Heart That Refused To See, took a deep breath and addressed her critics.
“Yes, I am hurting right now. Bruised. But I will heal. If I start seeing the world as you do, I will surely hurt forever.”
She’d said it.
But did she really believe it?
Could they even be right?
She looked over her delicate tatters. Her soft sheen, the warm glow that steeped her like a strawberry sunrise, that she refused to give up.
After some much needed convalescence, a decision was reached.
Reluctantly, she ditched the blindfold.
The comfortable blinkers she’d worn her entire life.
The other hearts were pleased, gloated a little. Secretly, they’d longed for her to be one of them and grow bitter. But to their surprise, she took out a pair of spectacles.
“Good idea!”
Sneered one.
“Well YOU certainly need those!”
Sniggered another
The Heart smiled knowingly to herself as she slipped on the new glasses, because she knew they were no ordinary pair.
The secret?
They were rose tinted!
The perfect compromise!
She had no wish to shrivel by ingesting the cruelty of the world.
She was ready to let both light and dark in.
To focus.
See things more clearly, including dangers.
On her own terms.
She told no-one of their special powers, that they magnified good and saw silver linings in every cloud.
Let them think what they wanted.
She would indeed ‘face reality’.
All filtered, through a magnificent lens of pure, shining love
.
And this is where my little writery brain was at 6am this morning. Not the best time to post but I’m spontaneous and have to put things out as they come to me.
It’s like holding on to a fire. I can’t.
It’s a sentiment I hold dear though, this one.
It seems the world wants us to harden doesn’t it?
And my heart refuses to comply.
Oh that’s lovely - it made me smile 😊
Rose tinted can be good…always hopeful and seeing the best in people.
