Poems for the lovelorn

Connection is like electricity. If you have it, you take it for granted but then one day there’s a power cut and you’re plunged into the dark. My writing is drawn to melancholy like a fly to shit.

It’s a full moon innit? So feel free to indulge your inner emotional wreck with me.

Red balloon

I loved you as a red balloon

Chased light through clouds of maudlin

Words soothed my mood as blackbird tune

Relieves a morose morning

.

But I am cursed, the balloon burst

My hands left holding air

I scour sky that rains my cry

But you’re no longer there

Lonely

Lonely is a dog that likes to stalk me after hours

Chewing on my marrow after trampling my flowers

His instinct is to dig up every hidden, rotting bone

I keep thinking if I move on, he’ll stop following me home

He paws for interaction, won’t lie quiet on the floor

I starve him of reaction, still he hovers at my door

His eyes are bloodshot cameos of all I could have known

His howl is every memory I wish I didn’t own

One day I’ll lose this feeling, stop my brooding on ‘if only’…..

For now, we’ll bed down in the cold….. my thoughts, the night and lonely

 Unlove You

I tried hard to unlove you

To unpin you from my head

To hear what logic told me

Not my foolish heart instead 

I bargained with my angels 

To steer me to smart choices 

They laughed, instructed “deal with it”

In their glib celestial voices

I still think in cherry blossom

Catch bluebirds playing in my eyes

Daydreaming way too often, 

Of your kisses, not your lies.

I meet your soul in kitchens 

As you navigate the dark

We snack on midnight scraps of maybe

But never consummate our spark.

For my gown is chained by circumstance 

And you’re fenced in by doubt

So, I’ll try harder to unlove you

You go within, I’ll go without

.
