If I should ever come to rest
My eyes on Spring without a nest
And daffodils forget to torch
The roadside beds, to flicker March
If April’s artist fails to mist
Her grey with bands of rainbow kiss
Though tragic, these things don’t compare
To just one day without you there
.
If I should witness desperate hour
When Summer mourns her lack of flower
An August without drone of bees
Or fragrance carried by sweet peas
If strawberries bleed not their red
Preferring to stay pale instead
These miseries, I would endure
To chat with you a little more
.
If I should hear October call
And sycamore forgets to fall
If wild winds herald birth of cold
But pirates steal the Autumn gold
If November bonfires cease to light
For wood smoke to infuse damp night
My soul would suffer, yes it’s true
It would not come close to losing you
.
If l should ever have to face
A Winter without snowflake lace
Or Jack Frost’s scrawl upon the green
His fleeting glitter never seen
No haunting broth of cloud and moon
No Christmas Eve nor carol tune
The cruelty would hold little sway
To if you were to walk away
Might help others facing similar issues too. 👏
Love your seasonal poetry, beautiful words and imagery as always. x
