It is like you get your coffee and you know it is going to take two cups,

Julie Dee's avatar

I’ve had two already, Paul. What do I do?🤷‍♀️😂

Usually after the second cup the wife has some biscuits in the oven and that will get my morning going in some kind of direction.

🥳

Good choice presenting this in isolation.

Love it.

I'm going to buy you a coffee and pretend it's at that little doggie restaurant with the amazing bagels that spans the high st at the front to the canal at the back.

Thank you :)

Hm…..

What to say. The human condition, eh? I wish I were another animal. An eagle, I think.

For time being you are my muse.

Albeit a semi bleak one😂

Funny how we humans are. When things are too much of a rollercoaster, as you say, we crave the flat but when it’s too flat or boring we crave the excitement again. Here’s to the wonderful yet exasperating ebb and flow of life.

Julie Dee's avatar

Yes it’s a bit like an actual hill, really. We tire and seek to plateau then we get bored again and seek another view.

Julie, I recognize this feeling all too well. But, we must make the best of our lives. No matter how flat life can be at times, on those days we realize, how important it is to live! Thank you Julie⭐️

Just ride it out :)

You betcha, Julie 🤗

You capture flatness vividly if that's not a contradiction in terms! I've felt a bit beige myself but the beigeness wouldn't allow me to write. As the poem points out that there is an emotional numbness, which makes you cry out for feeling.

Julie Dee's avatar

Yes, even pain feels like an acknowledgement we are alive sometimes, doesn’t it? Much is made of misery but long periods of flatness feel detaching from the business of life itself.

Hamish Easton Mackay Dawson's avatar

Yes, because you can wallow in the feeling that pain (physical or emotional/ psychological) brings but you can't wallow in beigeness!

Hi Julie,

I love everything about this poem, how it speaks of our shared experience, yet still, it is about you. I chuckled and nodded and put hand over heart ... and I loved listening to you read it.

I like the one poem at a time ...

Thank you. Have a great day ... with lots of red. ❤️

Julie Dee's avatar

Aww thank you Simone. This one came to me in song, with an accompanying tune, had a pianoey Joni Mitchell vibe but I wasn’t going to try and sing it 😂

Go on …. 🎶😂🙏💖

Yes no point in working nowadays as you are in the minority and treated like shit. I am older now and can take the scenery in .Yes l can understand the flat feeling on the wheel there's no end.Love the beautiful photo, sky and green long grass, good poem, Julie your a mistress of words Thanks.😊xxx.

I wanted to get the feel of ‘flat’

in the photo but also the idea of something lying beyond that feeling too.

Wow, that is actually a masterpiece of literature. You've described the human condition in the 21st century. Nothing much has actually changed. In fact it's probably worse and headed for concentration camp territory - lol.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, OD. Yes I think many can identify with the trudge of life. Yes, you are correct - it could definitely always be worse! Here’s hoping that things perk up :)

May you find a few mountains to climb somewhere in the future! Nice poem, Julie, and I’m glad you didn’t wait on posting it!
