I did a video post recently, in which I made a case for us ‘becoming sunshines’ that radiate light to others. I was disheartened by the constant diet of fear porn I saw peddled on my timelines, as I believe we absorb and then reflect what we take in.
The more I meditated upon this, I found the moon to be a more fitting metaphor.
The principal difference between the sun and moon, is that the moon knows night.
As ‘awake’ people (most of my subscribers *get* shitshow), we can relate.
We have been given the gift of seeing the dark of the world. Our veils are thinner, psyches more sensitive, hearts raw and open.
We don’t just see this black, as empaths we hurt. Sometimes so much, it feels like living in a bruise.
The gift can seem like a curse.
BUT
We have also been given another gift.
It’s a blessing we share with the moon!
The opportunity to shine a light in this darkness!
The moon does not run away from her night.
She knows every murky corner and tight crevice.
She knows it’s when predators are most active.
She knows it’s when guards are down.
Despite this, she chooses to be visible and present.
Why?
Because darkness is where light-bringers are most needed and will do their best work.
Part of this calling, is to reveal lurking enemies and expose those in disguise, and certainly, Moon does not shy away from this.
BUT
For the most part, she simply projects her pearlescent path, draws others toward her…..
And.
Gently.
Guides.
There are many references to both ‘mother’ and ‘sister’ moon in legend and literature. As sun has come to represent the masculine, moon embodies the qualities of the archetypal female or more specifically, wise woman. If we are to ‘be more moon’, we must understand these attributes, rouse and hone them.
The wise woman is at ease with and harnesses the cycles of life, be they seasons, tide or the pulls of her own physical body.
The wise woman knows the best medicines and sources of healing are freely given by our abundant planet and by means of connection with other living beings.
The wise woman does not fear her powerful dreams, strong gut feelings or impulses because she trusts in both her own intuition and benevolent forces working at a higher level than herself.
The wise woman does not reject her own vulnerability, but rather embraces it as useful. In a hard edged world, softness has advantage.
Moon refuses to be forced upon a person whose personality she does not fit. To attempt to do so would be the equivalent of the ugly sister squeezing herself unsuccessfully into the glass slipper. But for many of us, the moon has spoken quietly for so many years and we’ve chosen to ignore or silence her.
Perhaps this is you. Maybe you felt foolish for having hippy leanings that seemed to have no real foundation you could articulate.
Perhaps you are a man and felt unease with this classically feminine side of your character.
She still whispers.
There is still time to listen.
Moon’s disc, is not ‘Olympic gold’. She is hammered antique silver. She will never receive the same recognition as a dazzling sunshine, for she will never be able to heat vast oceans or start fierce fires upon parched moorland.
She will, however, save many a ship from meeting a rocky end on a stormy night.
And….
As she sits in ebony residence, she will meet with the company of the wildest, brightest and most enchanting of stars that share her passion to bring light to the darkest of places.
And that, is reward enough.
Be. More. Moon
