A poem to remind myself - and anyone else who wants it - to lean into compassion, love and universal knowing

A Reminder To Myself

.

Stretch your heart as a balloon

Feel it warm and swell……and travel

As you trust it unto forces

Greater than yourself

.

Stretch your mind to understand

That we’re not always meant to understand

At least, not with our intellect

But rather, our senses

Do bees converse with flowers

Of stigma and of stamens?

Or do they simply feel their way

As seekers of sweet nectar

.

Broaden horizons, all directions

Turn your head in awe and wonder

As moonlight paths appear in lakes

See every frosty breath as triumph

.

Stretch courage over rocks of fear

That thwart you on your journey

Take the thread you’re hanging by

To sew one tiny stitch.

.

Stream your light by opening doors

To where it is most needed

Know it won’t always be welcome

Shine all the brighter in those places

.

Stretch your capacity to forgive

If not for others, for yourself

For everything we ‘harbour’

Is the port that greets new ships

.

Shrink assumptions and beliefs

Hold them in a jar to daylight

That way, you’ll best observe them

For exactly what they are

Keep a lid on tightly

Feed them tears of your compassion

Behold the transformation

.

Live both as speck of dust and dazzling sun

We’re everything and nothing

But when you’re feeling small

Know every giant housed an ‘ant’

.

Stretch what helps, shrink what hinders

We are absorbers and reflectors

And if you’re unsure of your purpose

Name it now, as love.
